I have almost 15 years of fishing experience on the inshore, nearshore, and offshore waters around Kiawah Island SC. As a full-time fishing charter captain I have done well over 2000 successful fishing trips, and have learned a tremendous amount about our fishery. I'm often asked about "the best" time for the various species we catch. In general here is the seasonal schedule I offer:

Spring - Redfish, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Cobia, Amberjack, Spanish Mackerel, False Albacore, Weakfish (SeaTrout), and Black Seabass.

Summer - Cobia, Tarpon, Sharks, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel

Fall - Tarpon, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Grouper, Snapper (limited to a few days by NOAA), Black Seabass, Weakfish, False Albacore.

Winter - Redfish, Sheepshead, Black Seabass, Weakfish

Kiawah island Fishing can also be very productive in the tidal ponds, and on the beach. I've had the most success by netting fresh bait in the same spots. When fishing I like to focus on the two hours before, and after the tide Changes. For tackle A 7' medium action spinning rod, with a 3000 series reel is a great combination; I'd recommend using a popping cork, or a carolina rig to present your live, or cut bait. A 7000 series reel paired with a 12' medium heavy rod will be enough for most species you'll encounter on the beach.

The best way to get more info on a fishing charter is by texting me @8647609294 as most days I'm fishing, and unable to answer calls.
